The Iron Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar Extreme Edition lives up to our high expectations. We've used this doorway pull up bar everyday for the past year. It's held up and the results have been impressive. While we might not look like Arnold Schwarzenegger (yet), we do closely resemble Bruce Lee.

Featuring five grip positions, we love that this doorway pull up bar can handle a large number of workout variations, including those recommended in the P90X home fitness program. With a durable steel construction, the Iron Gym can hold up to 300 lbs (not an issue with us BTW). It will fit most standard doorframes between 24 to 32 inches wide.

First order of business: Will it fit all doors?

For the most part, yes. In our test, it fit all standard doors in our household. And it holds up very well. However, before you purchase, we recommend you measure your doorways. If your doorframe is between 24 to 32 inches wide, you’re good. Also, check your trim or molding. If it’s less than 3.5 inches, you’ll need to install a bracket to support the chin up bar.

Is the Iron Gym Extreme Easy to Assemble?

We’ve assembled two of the Iron Gym pull up bars. Both times, it took less than 15 minutes. The package comes with a small tool; however, we found it much more efficient to use our own tools.

Installing in the doorway was a cinch. It’s a basic lift, twist and it’s ready. It’s just as easy to remove.

Will it harm your doorframe?

In the year we’ve used these chin up bars, one of our doors had some black smudge and a slight indent. This particular pull up bar was left on permantly and used daily. The other doorway did not have any marks or indents. But we used wash cloths in between the pull up bar and the doorway. This does the trick and keeps our mom happy.
